JUNIOR/YOUTH DIVISION – PLAYER INFORMATION 2008 Welcome to the Junior/Youth Information page for the 2008 season. This page contains information on the following: Season Dates At the time of writing we have been advised that the first round of competitive matches for all Junior and Youth teams will be on the weekend of 5th/6th April. There will be no games on 12th / 13th July as this is the middle week of the July school holidays. The season is currently scheduled to conclude on the weekend of 30th /31st September but some teams may be required to play after that time if any matches that could decide a championship need to be completed. Internet Based Registration System and Database After a very successful introduction in 2007 the Club will again use an online registration and database system for 2008 (called ClubHub). The key features include: • Online player/parent/guardian registration and payment facilities Players born between 1 January 1991 and 31 March 2003 are eligible to register with the Junior/Youth section of the Club. Players born on or before 31 December 1990 should refer to the Senior Division Information 2008 page for more details. Registrations will be accepted in the following grades:
*The Club recommends all players play in their correct age grade and will make every endeavour to place all players in their correct age grade, however, where registration numbers do not allow, players may need to be moved to another grade to allow a team to be formed. Registrations in all grades accepted subject to sufficient numbers to form a team. Subject to registration numbers team squads are normally formed as below. In some circumstances these may be changed in discussion with Coaches, Managers and parents.
* Applies to all payments made before 3rd March 2008
** Applies to payments NOT made through our online system Click here to see our refunds policy. Early Bird Registration Benefits Early bird registrations close on Monday 3rd March 2008. All registrations paid on or before that date qualify for the following wonderful benefits: Requests to Play With Friends or Classmates The Club receives a number requests for players to be placed in the same team as a friend or classmate. The Club will attempt to meet such requests but cannot guarantee to do so. The Junior/Youth Division holds pre season trials for 10th Grade players and older. These trials form part of various processes whereby the Club attempts to ensure all players play in a team, and at a level, appropriate to their skills, commitment etc. We request all players attend trials if at all possible. Please go to the trials page for full details including dates and times, what to bring etc. Trials commence Sunday 18th February. Click here for full details. Ellerslie Junior/Youth teams play in two competition structures as follows: • Tamaki League – leagues for 6th to 11th grade players with teams taking part from various local clubs and schools. Emphasis is on participation, fun, enjoyment and the team environment. Games are competitive but no league tables are maintained. Teams are streamed mid season based on number and margin of victories in an attempt to ensure matches are as even as possible in the second half of the season. Games are normally played in the general east Auckland area. • Soccer 2 Leagues – leagues administered entirely by the local Federation and involving teams from throughout the Auckland Football Federation area. These leagues are competitive with teams initially placed in grades requested by their Clubs, then re-graded before the championship rounds start around week 8 of the season. Medals are awarded to championship winners. Games can be played anywhere in the Auckland Football Federation area or in Federation 1 area for Metropolitan and Combined leagues. All teams are trained weekly by volunteer Coaches who freely give of their own time to assist the players and the Club. In 2008 a number of our youth Premier and Metropolitan grade teams will also have the opportunity to receive one nights coaching from our professionally qualified coaches. These coaches are also available for one-off sessions with all teams. In the event that a player cannot attend a training day and time arranged the Club will attempt to find an alternative team that trains on an acceptable day. If this cannot be arranged a full refund of fees will be made. The Club is based at Michaels Avenue Reserve in Ellerslie. A number of teams train at this venue but it is not large enough to cater adequately for all Club training. The Club has arrangements with a number of local schools allowing teams to train on their premises. In the event that a player cannot attend at a particular venue due to transport problems the Club will attempt to find an alternative team that trains at an acceptable venue. If this cannot be arranged a full refund of fees will be made. Teams are issued with a set of playing strip, including a goal keepers shirt and gloves where teams play with a keeper. Some teams are also issued with Club shorts and jackets. All items remain the property of the Club and MUST be returned at the end of the season or earlier if a player leaves the Club. The Club reserves the right to seek compensation for any equipment not returned. Players normally need to have the following items of their own: All items are available from Champs Sports Ltd in Panmure. Members are entitled to a 5% discount off the normal retail price and a further 5% rebate is paid to Club funds. Like any organisation dealing with children’s activities, the Club relies heavily on adult involvement. Your family’s involvement in the activities of the Club would be greatly appreciated. Please put your name forward during the registration process and we will contact you. In order to organise teams this year, we must have coaches and mangers for all teams. Please help the Club help your children by indicating how you can help (you will be asked during the online registration process). The Club runs specialised training sessions for new coaches and managers, and supports coaches who wish to up skill through various training programs run both internally and by our parent Federation. This year the Club will run three skills course programs designed to assist in the development of juniors and younger youth grade players. Click here for full details.
