Code of Conduct for Ellerslie AFC Coaches
Junior and Youth Division 2007
(by the Ellerslie AFC Coaching Department and based on the Coaching New Zealand Code of Conduct)
1. Aim to achieve a balance between the development of your athletes’ performance, and their individual social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs.
2. Recognise individual, religious and cultural differences, and coach towards the athletes’ interests.
3. Lead by example; practice co-operation, self-control, respect for others, and maintain high standards of performance, behaviour and language.
4. Be trustworthy, honest, fair and consistent.
5. Continue to learn and develop your coaching abilities and effectiveness – be flexible, questioning, and innovative.
6. Consider the whole family and community (referees, opposite players, club officials) as part of your coaching programme.
7. Create a safe and non-threatening environment to play and practice that
involves people prepared to communicate with each other.
8. Promote the club or your own coaching abilities but do not try to disengage players from other coaches or clubs, as that would be unethical.
9. Accept and respect privacy practices such as the release of private or personal information.
10. Promote and follow principles of Fair and Honest Play at all times.
