*The Club recommends all players play in their correct age grade and will make every endeavour to place all players in their correct age grade.

Where registration numbers do not allow, players may need to be moved to another grade to allow a team to be formed. Players can play up a grade in certain circumstances, but almost never down a grade (Auckland Football Federation dispensation required to play down)

Registrations in all grades are accepted subject to sufficient numbers to form a team.

Requests to Play With Friends or Classmates

The Club receives a number requests for players to be placed in the same team as a friend or classmate. The Club will attempt to meet such requests but cannot guarantee to do so, particularly in graded teams.

Junior/Youth Coaching Director – Ryan Shiffman

The Club is delighted to welcome Mr Ryan Shiffman to this position. Ryan follows in the footsteps of Marc Prenty who left the club at the end of 2011 after 3 years with us.

Player and Coach Development Opportunities

The Coaching Department is planning a number of player and coach dvelopment courses in 2012.

Go to our Player Development and Coach Development pages for further details and details on how to register.

School Holiday Skills Programs

This year our first School Holiday program will take place on 16th/17th/18th of April. This course is ideally placed to upskill and get a flying start to the season on the following weekend. Ideal for those returning from last year, or those just starting in the game.

We have similar courses running during both weeks of the July School Holidays.

Get more details and registration instructions for all courses here.

Trials

The Junior/Youth Division holds pre season trials for 9th Grade players and older. These trials form part of various processes whereby the Club attempts to ensure all players play in a team, and at a level, appropriate to their skills, commitment etc.

We request all players attend trials if at all possible. Please go to the trials page for further information and details including dates and times, what to bring etc

Competitions and Leagues

Ellerslie Junior/Youth teams play in two different competition structures as follows:

       Tamaki League
These leagues are provided for 6th to 11th grade players with teams taking part from various local clubs and schools. Emphasis is on participation, fun, enjoyment and the team environment. Games are competitive but no league tables are maintained for 6th to 9th grades. Teams in 6th to 9th grades are streamed mid season based on the number and margin of victories in an attempt to ensure matches are as even as possible in the second half of the season. Games are normally played in the general east Auckland area.

       Auckland Football Federation (AFF) Leagues
These leagues are administered entirely by the local Federation and involve teams from throughout the Auckland Football Federation area. These leagues are competitive with teams initially placed in grades requested by their Clubs, then re-graded before the championship rounds start around week 8 of the season. Medals are awarded to championship winners. Games may be played against clubs from Auckland Football Federation, and, for metropolitan and combined  leagues, United Soccer 1 Clubs

Training Times/Days

All teams are trained weekly by volunteer Coaches who freely give of their own time to assist the players and the Club. For this reason training days and times are normally decided by the Coach in discussion with the members of the team. Most teams train one night a week but Premier and Metropolitan grade teams are expected to train twice weekly. Parents and players need to be aware of these requirements when offered/accepting places in graded teams.

In the event that a player in a Tamaki League team cannot attend a particular training day and time arranged by the team, the Club will attempt to find an alternative team that trains on an acceptable day. If this cannot be arranged a full refund of fees will be made.

Training Venues

The Club is based at Michaels Avenue Reserve in Ellerslie. A number of teams train at this venue but it is not large enough to cater adequately for all Club training. The Club has arrangements with a number of local schools allowing teams to train on their premises.

In the event that a player cannot attend at a particular venue due to transport problems the Club will attempt to find an alternative team that trains at an acceptable venue. If this cannot be arranged a full refund of fees will be made.

Playing Uniform

Teams are issued with a set of playing strip, including a goal keeper’s shirt and gloves where teams play with a keeper. Some teams are also issued with Club shorts and jackets. All items remain the property of the Club and MUST be returned at the end of the season or earlier if a player leaves the Club. The Club reserves the right to seek compensation for any club property that is damaged or not returned.

Players normally need to have the following items of their own:

            Boots
            Black shorts
            Gold Socks
Shin pads (players who are not wearing shin pads will not be permitted to play)

Outlets for the purchase of these items are currently being arranged. Please check back here shortly for further details.

Volunteers

Like any organisation dealing with children’s activities, the Club relies heavily on adult involvement. Your family’s involvement in the activities of the Club would be greatly appreciated. Please put your name forward during the registration process and we will contact you.

In order to organise teams this year, we must have coaches and mangers for all teams. Please help the Club help your children by indicating how you can help (you will be asked during the online registration process). The Club runs specialised training sessions for new coaches and managers, and supports coaches who wish to up skill through various training programs run both internally and by our parent Federation.

Contact Us if you would like to dicsuss ways you can help. Please also volunteer to assist when asked through the online registration process.

Financial Support

In common with most community based sporting organisations, the demand for, and desire to, improve services to our members is often constrained by funding shortfalls. There is continual pressure to maintain an appropriate balance between reasonable subscriptions and fees, and providing more and improved quality services for members.

In 2012 we have again committed to employing a full time Director of Junior/Youth Coaching. We are certain this move will continue to have tremendous benefits for player and coach development at all ages in the Junior/Youth division and enhance the opportunities for our older teenagers as they progress into Senior football.

We urge all members to financially support these initiatives by:

  • Paying subscriptions in full and on time
  • Adding a donation at registration time if you are in a position to do so
  • Contact Us if you are in a position to financially assist as a sponsor, with fund raising initiatives etc
