Auckland Manukau United
New Zealand soccer has granted a National Youth League Franchise (NYL) to Auckland-Manukau United. This new team will play in the NYL Summer 2008 competition against the likes of Auckland City and Waitakere and the rest of the national league academy teams this coming summer.
A number of Ellerslie players have been nominated to trial for the team and its associated development academy and Ellerslie will likely host a home game at Michaels Avenue on Saturday 23 February 2008. Ellerslie Under 19 Metro League Coach Warren Parke has recently been appointed as an Assistant Coach of the NYL side – congratulations Warren.
A number of clubs from the east and southern regions of Soccer 2 have nominated players to trail for selection to the Academy and NYL squads. These squads will include talented younger players with a view to the future.
Those selected to the NYL squad itself can remain with Ellerslie for the winter competitions and be on loan for the duration of the NYL season only.
Longer term, it is to be hoped that a successful NYL venture will lead to a chance to compete in the full National League. Participation in that league is due for review again in 2010.
We are pleased to announce that Brian Turner has accepted the position of Head Coach and has appointed Jose Figueras and Warren Parke as his Assistants
Over 100 player nominations have been received and they intending to hold trials 27th and 28th of October
From the trials 50 players will be invited to join the initial AMUFC Training Squad
This squad will train ( intended 3 sessions per week ) from 3rd November until 21st December when it will be cut to 25 players
Those 25 will train from early January until 15th January when the AMUFC NYL Academy team of 20 will be chosen to represent the Club for the NYL for the 2008 season
The cost per AMUFC training squad player will be $300
Letters and / or emails are being sent to all nominated players this week informing them of the trial times and ( if chosen for the training squad) the $300 fee
Each player chosen for the Academy is required to sign a NZF Championship Academy Player Loan Agreement which authorises their Club of Registration to allow that player to participate in the AMUFC Academy and play for the AMUFC Academy NYL team
